site redirects with \.git after installing magento 2

Hi, I have just installed magento 2.2.2 on two of my sites. Now if I search for their domain I get redirected. The redirection is visable on my a2 hosting account. It says http://example.com/\.git and I can't delete them. A2 hosting says that it is being controlled by the magento installation. I tried commenting out line 210 of the htaccess file 'RedirectMatch 403 /\.git' but that did not work.

Has anyone seen this problem before? I am probably missing something very basic. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Just solved it. It wasn't a magento problem but a browser and cpanel issue. The site was redirecting to an error page with /cgi-sys/defaultwebpage.cgi at the end.

Chrome was remembering the error page in the cache which just had to be cleared.
