CSS and js minify dont work

I want to speed up my Magento and turn on option minify css and js. After that i clear all cache but nothing was changed. What can be problem there, any ideas ? Maybe some extension will do it better ? Regards for help

Does yur media folkder have 777 permissions to write files?

Did you check source code if js/css files combined there?

is it multistore or single shop? anyway make sure you have selected correct store scope to apply settings to.

Media has 755 chmod permission, someone tells me that magento generate that minify files but i cant see in shop source code that ... where can i check that on ftp if is generating ? This is simple store, i choos corect store.
