Hi, I'm fairly new to Magento development so I'm still trying to find my way around it and I'm getting there. I'm wondering if (without a plugin), can Magento have it's theme changed in the admin panel via way of a UI in the backend or does it soley rely on theme inheritance somewhere?
Other systems I've used in the past have a theme/styles section where you can mix and match things and I've yet to come aross something in Magento, was wondering if perhaps this was possible? Just curious to see if it's implemented or requires a plugin of sorts.

Solved! Go to Solution.
You can change quite a few settings related to the Magento theme in the Magento admin panel/backend. Check out this page of the manual: http://merch.docs.magento.com/ce/user_guide/Magento_Community_Edition_User_Guide.html#design/theme-c...
And specifically click the "To activate the theme for your store:" section at the bottom.
I hope that helps! Also, welcome to the exciting world of Magento development.

I you haven't read the complete manual, you can do this it 2 ways.
1) Go to System > Configuraiton > General > Design Tab > There you can enter creditials into the fiels Package and Themes.
2) Go to System > Design > There you easily turn on/off existing design in your shops. You can also specific a date-range for a theme to be active. Example you have a red christmas holiday verison of your theme, then you can setup af date-range from 01st december to 24th december, and Magento will show the red version there, and when we hit midnight on the 24th of december, Magento will switch back to your normal theme.
Pretty nice feature.
Also it is possible on each category to specific a unique design, but choose this wisely, so you don't confuse your customers.
Best regards,
Kent
