Can layered navigation vary by category? No nav for some categories and different nav for others?

We have some categories that have few products and don't want to have layered navigation for those category pages.  Other categories have different sets of attributes that we would like to use for layered navigation.  Can we vary by category?

You can try our Improved Layered Navigation extension.

It will let you to hide Layered Navigation from the categories you choose

Layered navigation is based on products it applies to. It means that only those attributes that are relevant to those products will be shown. Another thing is that layered navigation can be turned on and off using "Is Anchor" option. If it's true, the layered navitaion will be displayed, if not .. not layered navigation. This option is per category option.
