Credit Card Terminal Integration

Is it possible to integrate a credit card terminal with Magento 2.X? 

If any high level pointers on devices and how to?

While this isn't a native feature of Magento, there are some ways to make it happen.

My best recommendation would be to look for a payment gateway that has its own modern credit card swiper. A great example is Square, which has a Magento Extension that, according to their listing in the Magento Marketplace allows you to "Use Square POS software and hardware for in-person transactions and manage/view sales in Magento."

There are also Point of Sale (POS) extensions for Magento that will add a Point of Sale interface to your Magento installation, and allow you to leverage systems like PayPal Here to let shoppers scan their credit cards. https://marketplace.magento.com/ebizmarts-pos.html
