Refunds when stock not returned

We are currently have new site built for using Magento 2.4.1 Open source. The developers are saying that we cannot do refunds where the stock is not returned onto the system for example where the item is lost in transit. Is this actually the case. They seem to think that we can only do refunds where the stock also gets added back into the system

I'm fairly certain you don't have to put the item back into stock.

 

However, the process isn't simple.

Here's the steps:

1. Find the Order.

2. Click on the Invoice.

3. View the Invoice.

4. Create a credit memo.

5. Make sure the return to stock item is deselected.

 

Hope this solution works out.
