According to my experience, Gift Card has many important features you need to get for your wife's shop:

- 300 FREE eye-catching gift card templates are awesome presents for customer's friends.

- The best wishes are left and attached to gift card in order to show that "He is very special to me"

- Not only simple gift but the paying functionality is integrated into it, which make the gift card become a smart and convenient payment methods.

Since everybody is just reccomending there own crap MEH (so annoying)!
I figured i'd provide an impartial reccomendation.

I would reccomend https://en.modulwerft.com/magento-gift-cards.html by Modulwerft. Honestly i've not used this but just looking at the site you can see it's going to be a minimal extension with no bloat that just does the job and does it well. If I was about to buy a gift card extension this is 100% the place i'd go.

(Note I have used versions by some of the more popular providers and been left disapointed :/)
