ERROR : The requested URL was not found on this server

The index.php isn't beeing used on the front end at all. 
Index.php is showing on the admin pages though. The checkout and everything is working fine when using unsecure but not when using secure. 
Also the landing page is working and some subpages when manualy typing https insted of http. 
You link didn't do the trick. Couldnt follow it without the site going down.

Index.php on admin urls is fine

It seems like the ssl is working fine. The rewriting just don't seems to work on the checkout page, so frustrating. 
Guess I have to contact some support company to get it fixed

turn off url rewriting from magento admin configuration>web> Search Engines Optimization > Use Web Server Rewrites > No

i also face the same problem. if my url is like : http://127.0.0.1/magento/vip.html than it showing "The requested URL /magento/vip.html was not found on this server." but if i type http://127.0.0.1/magento/index.php/vip.html than it will work fine !!! i can't understand how to solve this problem. i read ur answer and apply but not find the solution. please let me know how to solve this problem.

i tried many solution to resolve this issue. One thing i did is, i removed the local.xml file from app/etc directory and reinstall the magento. While reinstalling in the third step i checked the two check box, one is skip base url and next check box for url rewrites. Then it works like charm.

Hello. I installed magento new. Now when I open admin page of the site is returned to me an error like this: not Found The requested

Not Found

The requested URL /index.php was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

For http://lalaonlineshop.com/los/lalashop links on the admin page of the site. How can I fix the problem? Thank you all.
