Installing on localhost - stuck

I'm trying to install Community product onto my localhost to do some testing but I'm stuck at the page

http://localhost/index.php/install/wizard/config/

and is giving me the error:

Please enter a valid URL. Protocol is required (http://, https:// or ftp://)

I've google several different fixes and tried them ie

"For this you need to remove the validation for the particular section.

Open \app\design\install\default\default\template\install\config.phtml

Find the textbox where the base url is entered. It will be around line no 85 with name ‘config[unsecure_base_url]‘ Remove ‘validate-url’ from its class and save the file."

For me it removed the error message but all it does now is refresh the page without the message. What can I try next to get pass this?

Hi @Steveace6, please try replacing 'localhost' with 127.0.0.1 so that your url is http://127.0.0.1/index.php/install/wizard/config/
