What is the best way to set up your LAMP stack for Magento installation?

I am having trouble with Virtualbox and Ubuntu site.  Is that the best way to do this? I got Ubuntu installed but couldn't open terminal.  I don't know how.  I read it in Gix's site. I noticed that Oracle has stacks available.  I am going to try that today. What has been tried that's successful?  Please help.

Do you mean you run windows, than install virtualbox to run linux?

Try download image from https://virtualboxes.org/

Get root/password from the image site.

Search how to setup LAMP on ubuntu, Make sure apache running good, then you can setup Magento.
