magento files and database installed on separate nodes

Is there any benefits or drawbacks to install the Magento files and its database on separate nodes or servers?

I feel it may better for separation of concern to have them on different nodes, but I am afraid that may take longer to configure. I also worry about the performance...

What is your opinion?

Its always advisable to have the code and DB on separate (vm) servers to make sure it will get enough resource. So I would suggest you to continue your approach.
