Cron setup OSX localhost

I'm trying to run the update and Cron script readiness fails:

Cron script readiness check failed.

Error from Setup Application Cron Script:
Cron job has not been configured yet
Other checks will fail as a result (PHP version, PHP settings, and PHP extensions)

Error from Updater Application Cron Script:
Cron job has not been configured yet

crontab -u root -l returns the following:

*/1 * * * * php -c /Applications/MAMP/bin/php/php5.6.10/conf/php.ini Sites/magento2/bin/magento cron:run
*/1 * * * * php -c /Applications/MAMP/bin/php/php5.6.10/conf/php.ini Sites/magento2/update/cron.php
*/1 * * * * php -c /Applications/MAMP/bin/php/php5.6.10/conf/php.ini Sites/magento2/bin/magento setup:cron:run

Any ideas?

There can be several reasons for the "Cron script readiness check failed" message: https://mage2.pro/t/541
You can setup breakpoints or logging to diagnose the actual error reason.

I ran the cron setup command manually and the error went away.

cron still doesn't run however. Anybody know how to get cron running on localhost?
