Install by Cloning from Github

In the documentation for installing Magento 2 as a contributor, there is a note that if M2 is installed by cloning the repository, you cannot have a live store.  

I couldn't find any further information as to why that's the case. Is this a technical restriction, or a licensing one?

Hi @dersam,

Is just a recomendation because the repository can change. The downloadable version of composer one are more secure to be used on LIVE.

You'll find that normally the three versions are the same but is it possible that, for a momento, the GIthub version get some difference.

That's why Magento recommend to use the other two methods for LIVE stores.

So it's to ensure that you don't end up with a nightly build of Magento 2 on production, rather than a tagged release. That makes sense, wanted to make sure there wasn't another reason.

Yes.

Magento tries to avoid that kind of problems but you need to know that is possible.
