I run PowerhouseExpress.com.pk, a store with thousands of products ranging from electrical accessories to home and kitchen appliances. We’ve been running on Shop ify, but we’re planning to make the jump over to Magento 2 because of the flexibility and scalability it offers. Honestly though, I know it’s a big move and I don’t want to walk into it blind.
What worries me most is making sure the migration doesn’t become a mess — we’ve got:
- Thousands of SKUs with detailed product data (specs, images, categories, custom attributes).
- A lot of history with customers and orders that I’d like to carry over.
- Decent SEO rankings that I don’t want to risk losing in the switch.
I’d love to hear from anyone who has already migrated a large Shop ify store to Magento:
- What’s the smoothest way to handle product/catalog migration?
- Any “gotchas” you ran into with SEO redirects or data mismatches?
- How did you keep Magento fast and stable with a huge catalog (indexing, caching, hosting choices, etc.)?
- Did you test everything on a staging site before launch, and if so, what was most important to double-check?
If you’ve been through this before, I’d really appreciate any best practices, tools, or lessons learned. Even a quick list of “what not to do” would help me out a lot. Thanks a ton in advance. I know this community has a lot of experience with big builds like this, and I’d love to learn from you before we take the plunge.
