I have just downloaded and unpacked Magento Community 2.1.1. Then I get "mysite.com is not working. HTTP ERROR 500".
Server is running Apache with PHP 5.6.22.
You will want to check your web server's error log, and if Magento logged any errors in var/log/ as well. That should shed some light on the error.
