Upgrading mysql from 5.5 to 5.6

Hi,

I am looking to install a new magento2 site on my server, then eventually migrate from Magento 1

But the problem I have mysql 5.5 and it needs upgrading to mysql 5.6 globally.

So that means my magento 1 site wil be upgraded to 5.6 as well, will this effect the site in anyway?

Re: Upgrading mysql from 5.5 to 5.6

If your magento 1 version is magento 1.9.x You dont need to hesitate for upgrade your mysql version from 5.5 to 5.6.

  • Magento CE 1.9.x support MySQL versions upto 5.6.x.

Before proceed with any changes you have to take backup first for your safety.

If your Magento 1 version  1.9.0 or below version your site might have effect.

So you are secure for upgrade your mysql version for version 1.9.1.x

Re: Upgrading mysql from 5.5 to 5.6

Hi Wood1e,

If you can not use MySQL 5.6 for your live store, another option is to get a separate small development cloud server optimized for Magento 2 and do all the development there. It's always a good idea to separate production and development environments as much as you can anyway.

Many thanks for that, we have 1.9.2.4

I will get my server company to complete the Global upgrade...

I can then get on with new magento 2 install Smiley Happy
