Magento 2 MariaDB Supports

Hello Alen,

Latest version of  XAMPP supports MariaDB. Does Magento 2 or its future release will supports Maria DB?

Hi. We do not test against all database systems, just MySQL. There are a few around now.

As long as MariaDB stays compatible with MySQL, then it will work. I am running MariaDB myself without problems with Magento 2. I think I am running MariaDB 10.0, which appears to be MySQL 5.6 compatible if I read things correctly. If anyone reports a compatibility issue, we will probably have a look.  But we are not making any promises about support since we don't run automated test cases against MariaDB (at least at this stage).

But it is interesting to see that XAMPP includes MariaDB instead of MySQL.
