INquiry about configurable products

Recently took over an account.  All of there products are simple products.  Is there an extension or easy to way to set them to configurable and map the products accordingly?

Do your simple products already have configurable attributes (are they variations like S blue, M red etc) or you just want to convert some of your simple products into configurable and add associations?

the items currently are set as simple   have attributes assigned to them   color and size

i am wanting to go through the products and change 1 to configurable and add the simple products to the host configurable product
