Setting Default Page Layout in System > Configuration

How do you set the Default page layout in the System > Configuration > General > Design > Themes > Layout option?

Im running v 1.9.2.0

I've Google'd and not finding the right answer other than editing and xml file. I dont want to edit any XML files as I may change the settings randomly.

Path you mentioned is correct. You need to add "your theme name" in both fileds i.e. "skin(images/CSS)" and "Layout". Save Configuration.
