product image switch based on attribute selection

I have a product configurable by 3 attributes 1. order type (metres or sample) 2. base fabric and 3. scale. I have uploaded a file for each simple showing the different scale which does work on the front end i.e. The image changes as scale is selected/changed. The images uploaded against the configurable remain as thumbnails underneath the main product image. I'd like if I could present more than one image for each simple and they show as thumbnails instead of the configurables. Is this possible please ?

Hi I have switched on configurable swatches already. I have uploaded two images per simple but when the relevant attribute option is selected only one image appears. I'd like both to appear as thumbnails, replacing the config images, and one of those two images to appear as the main product image but that this changes as the simples thumbnails are in turn chosen. Here is the example of what I am trying to achieve..  https://www.thenorthface.co.uk/shop/en-gb/tnf-gb/nuptse-gilet-33pa?variationId=BA0.  But Ill be using "Scale" instead of "Colour”. As the user selects a different option of Scale I would like the main product image and supporting thumbnails to change accordingly. How do I do this please?
