Problem with Magento DB

Hi, i have installed a new version of Magento, i already have a database of another version, when i try to configure the Magento new version to the DB of old version, Magento does not show any data base info, someone can help me?

When you say another version, what is the other  version? Magento DB structure was changed in version over M1.7 (or 1.8 can't remember exactly).
