Change the sort order for show on toolbar

Hi All,

Please somebody can help me on this. I desperately need it to be done. I spent days with no avail.

By default, magentos default sort order is descending but I want it to be ascending and I changed it from  toolbar.php to ascending and change the coding at toolbar.phtml everything works except for show dropdown list. Whenever I click the show 5,10,15 per list it goes back again to descending again.

Option URL show dir=desc and I couldn't figure it out from where this direction is coming, I attached the screenshot to have a clear picture of issue I am facing.

Your help will be profoundly appreciated.

Hi Can you please remove the toolbar.phtml from your theme and try. It seems there was some mistake in your theme. ALso please provide Link to guide you batter.
