Hi. I got the error in product sorting for some categories and working fine for remaining categories. means, product sorting and ascending and descending directions are also not working. I checked the code and admin settings and i didnt find any mistake. so, can anyone tell me the proper solution. I checked list.phtml and pager.phtml and toolbar.phtml. Now iam really tired of checking the code. help me.

That actually worked. 

No offence, but my 3 years as a Magento dev has given me degree of skepticism with posted solutions. But your patch solved my issue just like *clicks fingers* that.
