Help with assisting installing Patches

Hello Everyone,

I'm very new to Magento, and i can't find the answers I need on the Knowledge base or forum.

I understand that these security patches need installing, but cannot find clear instructions as to how to do it.

Can someone point me too or tell me the step to step guide as to how to install the patches for Magento.

1. Download the security patch.
2. Use WinSCP to copy it to your Magento root folder (the one you can see contains the app/ directory)
3. Use Putty to establish an SSH terminal session, use cd on the command line to navigate to the Magento root folder
4. At the command prompt execute the following (case matters): sh long-ugly-name-of-patch.sh
5. Watch for success message being output
6. Use WinSCP to inspect the contents of app/etc/applied.patches.list to see what files were patched.

I have the same problem:
am newbie in magento
I also use winscp and have now hinbekommen the putty function. Unfortunately, I'm not sure where my root directory is. as I understand it is in this also the directory app be there, right?
If it is true, I have tried the cd enter into putty but is not happening here. Then I tried the
sh long-ugly-name-of-patch.sh
entered and after the enter button I get this information:

no such file or directory
- Bash: command not found sh ::

Something's wrong here, right?

Do you have any idea?

Hi @marx, were you able to get the patch installed? Your host should be able to help you identify the root directory of your store.

Is there a resource available that will walk me through the security patch installation process? The server where Magento is installed is Unix with CPanel. I have access to files via ftp and CPanel.

Also, I'm using a Macintosh System 10.10.5.
