Sorry about that, it included the period in the URL, here you go: http://devdocs.magento.com/guides/m1x/install/installer-privileges_after.html

Let me know if that works. Smiley Happy

Sorry, still getting 404 error message. ALso, changing the the permissions to 700  still did not get the log folder created, do I need to create it myself?

Re: Newbie - Installed Magento 1.9.1 new install and patch_supee-5994

It won't hurt anything to create it yourself. Give it a try and see if the logs are created. Smiley Happy

Also, I added 1 product category and 1 product, but does not appear on the front end and if I click any of the links in the footer on the frontend, I get a 500 error. Did I do something wrong? the url for the page is magento.fontanacomputerservices.com

[Note: @dfontana messaged me info to look at his admin configuration but I wanted to post the solution here in case anyone else is having a similar issue.]

Okay, I've figured out a few things:

  1. Your services category needs to be located under Default Category.
  2. Your rewrites weren't setup somewhere. In your configuration, under General > Web > Search Engine Optimization I set "Use Server Rewrites" to No and then the second level naviagation started working. Probably the reason for this is your .htaccess didn't have the correct permissions during the install so couldn't be modified.

    Look for:

    Options +FollowSymLinks -MultiViews
    # Turn mod_rewrite on RewriteEngine On RewriteBase /magento

RewriteEngine should be On not Off and RewriteBase should be your folder Magento is installed in, in this example it's /magento. When you're done, be sure your .htaccess file is set back to 644 for permissions. (see: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/14769108/htaccess-rewrite-rule-not-working-with-magento)
  3. Your product wasn't showing because it was set to Out of Stock. When I changed this, you'll see it in the category at http://magento.fontanacomputerservices.com/index.php/services.html
