installing security patches

hi,

i have some questions regarding the installation of the latest patch(es).

the site is a virtual host on a shared production server with many other sites.

is it safe to execute the .sh file in this environment? will it affect the rest of the server?

and it seems file ownership/permissions change, should i just chown -R the whole www folder to the client user/group?

It will only affect the Magento installation in whose root folder you run it.

So if this server is multiple Magento installations on a shared server, it will need to be applied to each instance.

If this server is running a single Magento installation with multiple stores, then, yes, it will affect all storefronts in that installation.
