Category images look "dirty" - what's the culprit?

I am having problems with my category images and how they look. For some reason the white background area of my product images looks "dirty" - meaning I can see "noise" which looks like very very faint horizontal lines.

Is this a magento optimisation / scaling problem?
Or, could it be a coding issue within my theme that my developer messed up?

I have searched this forum for many keywords to try and find the answer to this problem but with not luck so I am sorry if this is a repeat question.

Hoping someone can shine a light.

@MerlionShop could you provide links or images for the problem? I might be able to help you out but I need to see what you are talking about.

Re: Category images look "dirty" - what's the culprit?

There are only two possibilities:

 - Your category images are in low resolution

 - You're scaling images in the code programmatically

I doubt we can conclude what is the issue without taking a look into that part of code, but you may paste the link to the affected category, and then we can try to make conclusion.

Re: Category images look "dirty" - what's the culprit?

Hi Sinisa,

I am 100% confident it's not the images. In photoshop they look great! It's how it looks uploaded on the front end that is bad.

To fix this would I need a backend magento developer?

Thanks,
Merlionshop
