I have Magento 1.7.0.2, and lately I have noticed some exceptions about Invalid block type at the file /var/log/exception.log. However, I didn't notice any apparent malfunction on the front-end. Here is a sample of the relevant exceptions:

/app/code/core/Mage/Page/Block/Html/Topmenu/Renderer.php
/app/code/core/Mage/Checkout/Block/Cart/Minicart.php
/app/code/core/Mage/Page/Block/Html/CookieNotice.php
/app/code/core/Mage/Directpost/Block/Form.php
These files didn't come with the standard installation package of Magento 1.7.0.2. I don't know if there was some patch which included calls to those files.
