SMTP - new host with no domain

Hi all

I'm moving a Magento 1 website to another host (soon to be migrated to M2).

I have a complete copy of the M1 site on the new hosting but the Domain isn't pointing to it yet.

I'm viewing the site after editing my local PC hosts file.

What I want to know is should the sending of emails work at this point?

I've changed the 'send emails to' address for the Contact Form to my personal email address for testing purposes, but no emails are being received.

Should this work or does the Domain need to be pointing to the new host sever?

Hi @Andy_Acute 

If you have to move your existing website to a new hosting company. You have to update the DNS entries to map to the new server.

To receive email from the new hosting server you should have a functional email server/service setup there.
