Should I use Compilation feature?

Hi,

I have my Compilation statues disable.

I read that if you enable the Compilation the store becomes faster and that's why this option developed.

My question is: Is that correct what I wrote above. And if yes if I enable Compilation is it safe for my store or I will face any problem?

Compilation provides a slight increase in performance BUT you must make sure to disable it before you install or update any extensions.

Short answer is no.

Compiler used to speed up older Magentos, but I've hear pretty anecdotal reports that nowdays (we're talking about newer versions) it could actually slow down your store. Anyway, I believe that it's left there only for backward compatibility sake as some third part extension may require it.
