Transactional emails not sending

Order notification emails have stopped sending recently. The Cron Job had previously been set to cron.php instead of cron.sh, so I changed it to the default, as below, and as confirmed by my hosting support to be the proper way:

*/5 * * * *  /usr/local/bin/ea-php56 /home/citizene/public_html/cron.sh

I tried to install AOE Scheduler to get visibility, but it just shows "No heartbeat task found. Check if cron is configured correctly"

Still no emails are sending out. And cron_schedule in the database is just empty.

I failed to clear caches after installing. Once I did that things seemed to pop back into motion.
