Color picker functionality like Amazon

I've seen several attribute extensions that improve color picker functionality on the product page. But I'm looking for a solution similar to the way Amazon handles their color picker - where when choosing a color changes (loads a new page) to a new product page with a separate sku when the user clicks the new color. The user thinks they're simply choosing a color attribute when in fact they're taken to a new product page. Here's an example:

Click a different color and the URL changes. Is there an extension that functions similar to this when each color has its own sku?

One thing I can't wrap my mind around - we want to display color swatches on a product page to display other color options for that product model. But the other colors will need to have their own SKU numbers with different inventory levels and prices. We also want to have the ability for the user to see all products (colors) on the category page and filter by color. How can we achieve both? It seems like you can have one but not the other.
