How to install a fresh theme into my old magento installation

I want to remove my site's theme cos i figured it has been hacked and i want to use a fresh theme/upgraded version of the theme i was using before.

I want my site's files and setting to remain the same so i won't have to start redesigning the site from scratch.
Could anyone please enlighten me on files to backup, files not to touch, how to go about it..........

Hi @fumz_ayo,

If you want to add theme in existing Magento then put your theme folder under this path "app\design\frontend\default". 

Now you can set the design of you store by setting it through admin side.

Go to admin side -> System -> Design -> Add New Design Change and set the theme which you have placed.

Flush the Magento cache and check it. Let me know if you are facing any issue.
