Can't import products after Upgrade from 1.9.0.1 to 1.9.3.1

Hi Support,

Can you please help me in this issue. We have upgraded from magento 1.9.0.1 to 1.9.3.1 . After the upgrade, Admin >> System >> Import , importing products via excel csv file doesn't work. Import shows successful but when we check Catalog >> Manage Products, we can't view the products there. Nor does it show in frontend. So, I guess its not getting uploaded to DB.

How can we troubleshoot this issue. Please provide a solution. 

system.log shows this 

"2017-04-11T13:32:10+00:00 ERR (3): Notice: iconv_strlen(): Detected an illegal character in input string  in /magento/htdocs/app/code/core/Mage/Core/Helper/String.php on line 86"
