How to add sale items to homepage?

I've been trying to find a way to add a widget to the homepage that shows items on sale.  Is there a way to do that in Magento 2?  I've been able to do things like add new/featured products but no luck with sale items.  I cannot even find an extension for it. Maybe I'm asking Google the wrong questions.  Any help would be appreciated here.

Thanks for the reply.  While the link you shared was for "featured products", it did get me where I needed to be.  One of the "featured products" listed also had another product that covered sale items.  I think the combination of the two should work wonderfully.
