Limit configurable product quantity

Is there any way to limit the quantity of configurable products directly from the admin panel? I have a configurable product with 3 different variants (Small, Medium, Large). I'd like to set for certain products a max amount (i.e. only 1 of the 3 variants can be added to the cart). Can this be done? Or does it need an extension?

Magento does not support the feature out of the box. You can apply the max quantity allowed check for Simple product but not at the Configurable product. Magento Marketplace is the place where you should for an available extension.
