Magento 2 adding strange code to home page url

I don't know why this is happening but anytime I visit my site, instead of www.domain.com I am directed to something like www.domain.com/?sid=3pmv8cscsccdjinldmosv75i21

I have tried an URL rewrite but anytime I do this the code changes. What is going on and how do I stop it?

Hello @richard_garner 

Yes, you can able to disable SID from the URL, kindly follow the below steps :

• Magento dashboard > Store > Configuration > General > Web > Session Validation Settings > Use SID on Storefront set its value to No.
• Re-index Magento
• Refresh Magento cache

Then it will not able to showcase SID on the storefront !
