Payment Method in Magento2 can't change it in the backend

In the backend I configured the "bank transfer" payment method. Now I would like to change "new order status" to "pending payment". But I can't. The dropdown only shows "Pending".

How does that come? Or what do I have to do?

If I have a look on all order states there are a lot more. I also created my own state. But it's not showing up in this dropdown. (cache cleared and everything)

Any suggestions?

Please check that your "Pending Payment" order status is assign to specific order state "Pending Payment"

From the backend store -> configuration -> go to order status and click on assign status to state and assign that specific status to specific state

Clear the cache and check !

Apart from that you can just change order status Label from Magento admin:

Store>Order Status>Edit Pending order status >Status Label>Pending Payment>Save.
