How to limit magento 2 items displayed on the thumbnail slider in product page?

I need to limit 4 thumbnails shown at all times and other thumbnails to be displayed normally within the carousel.

for example, the last image must appears inside of the slider:

I read the magento and fotorama documentation, but I don't see any options to limit it...
