Hi,
the first thing i did on all my magento 1.9 shops was setting the phone to not required in onepage checkout (all my customers wanted this).
I did never undestand why there is no possibility out of the box for this (yes/no) in configuration...
Now, in magento 2 i searched for hours. I found XML files, template files, i searched the database but i cannot find, where the phone field is set to required :-(
I found it in the /vendor/magento/module-checkout/view/frontend/layout/checkout_index_index.xml - but there is no flag for required or not...
The template hints just show me a onepage.phtml with javascript.
I found information how to add new fields:

But this didn't help me.
I dont want to deactivate the whole field - i want the field - but it just should not be required...
Has anybody an idea - a solution, or just a hint?
