Magento 2 maintenance mode

So I'm very new to Magento and only have basics in programming. I've the version 2.1.1 installed and I was wondering if someone could give me detailed step by step instructions to put my store in maintenance mode?

Please visit following url Enable or disable maintenance mode.

magento maintenance:enable [--ip=<ip address> ... --ip=<ip address>] | [ip=none]
magento maintenance:disable [--ip=<ip address> ... --ip=<ip address>] | [ip=none]
magento maintenance:status

Make sure you exempt  your ip address from the maintenance mode.
