Programmatically creating grouped product takes too long to save associated products

I created a script to programmatically create grouped products. For that, I used the example under the dev folder:

The problem is that when creating a product this way, it can take more than 30 minutes to save just one product. The key point here is that my grouped product contains more than 400 products associated.

Is there away to improve this? A faster way?
