Can't upload category images or thumbnails

Here's a weird one.  I cannot upload an image in either the category image or category thumbnail.  If I upload in to the category thumbnail and click save it all looks like it worked, but the image does not appear on the front end and when I go to edit the category thumbnail again, there isn't one there.

However when I add a category image, it uploads fine, but the image does not appear on the front end and when I go to edit the category thumbnail again, it is there but with a broken link.  If I open the broken link image in another tab, it's path is wrong, it shows as:

https://MYDOMAIN/pub/media/catalog/category/cat5.jpg

When it should be:

https://MYDOMAIN/shop/pub/media/catalog/category/cat5.jpg

If I add in the /shop the image is there on the server, the category is just looking for it in the wrong place.

Any ideas?

Hi @bigbob2 

Found a temp fix from your research, you need to replace code with this file:

vendor/magento/module-catalog/Model/Category/Attribute/Backend/Image.php

The problem was fixed with 2.3-develop but not 2.3.3 
Comparing the code between version 2.3 and your Magento2 version and update your file accordingly. 
It may help you to resolve issue.

Hi ,

   I have installed Magento 2.3 on my server. I want to upload thumbnail image from admin for categories from gallery but there is no button available. It is only showing the upload button from my system and not from gallery.

Any help please
