Thanks, I've gave Kudos.

I changed the limit to 1024 as you suggested, the error message has now disappeared from the system log, but again, no products are visible in front / backend and database.

Can you please check magento log as well server long.

Also, make sure description or short description does not contain special char.

Make sure UTF-8 converted your csv file before import.

I have managed to get it working.. it looks like my excel isn't saving to UTF 8 properly.

What I done is saved it as a CSV (Comma delimited) as standard, opened it up using notepad and re-saved it as a .csv using UTF 8 encoding.
