When i add my email to and click on Subscribe button. I get following error
Something went wrong with the subscription.
i am using Magetno 2.1.1

Did you able to resolve this issue?? I am also facing the same in my Magento 2.1.9 website.
It works for me !
I just changed the "Disable Email Communications" to yes in Magento 2 ( Stores > Configuration > Advanced > System > Mail Sending Settings > Disable Email Communications).
