I'm not sure where this sits; whether it's a setting in a graphical editor but I have only seen this in Magento and wondered if anyone else has encountered it:

Once uploaded to Magento, displays and downloads as:
It seems to occur on images with areas of solid colour. What is causing this and how can it be avoided? Thanks
