Struggling to RE-Index on Command Line

HI Everyone,

Apologies if this has been asked before. I am a complete newbie at magento2 and have just started really looking into it.

I managed to have a break through this morning and managed to connect to the server via SSH (yes this might not be advanced but for me it was a win). I have tried putting in the following command once I have connected to the server:

php bin/magento indexer:reindex

Then hit enter. But I dont get anything back. The screen stays white, but all tutorials I have expected to see a list of the out of date status updated. I have attached a screen shot:

So I have the done the command pwd to and that tells me I am in the installation area where I expect it to be. But for some reason it just stays blank after I hit enter?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Please check error logs what is showing and share here so can guide accordingly. It seems something error in your code.

Check in Var/logs directory. Here you will find different different logs, please share if any error you can see.

But no exception log. Weirdly the system log hasnt been updated today yet I was working on the site this morning and trying to connect? The above are the most recent logs.

@gregoryclaytonWelcome to the forum!

Not sure if the issue is already resolved as I do not see you are still looking for the solution. Below are couple of pointers to start with:

1.Are you able to run any other Magento command from CLI, like cache:flush etc?

2. If answer to #1 is No. Check you php version to make sure if it is compatible with your Magento. FYI: Command line PHP version can be different than browser.

3. Look into server log (Apache & PHP) if Magento log is not helping much.

4. Sometime you have to provide the full path of PHP in command like /usr/bin/php or you have to mention the version as well like /usr/bin/php71 or /usr/bin/php72. You need to figure out the right pattern for your server.

Let us know what your findings are and we can take it from there.
