low quality of product images after upload

Magento ver. 2.1.6, imagemagick enabled.

We are in request of high quality images for product photos but for some reason after update through magento backend they are changed to lower quality. We didn't find any option to change this behavior. Is it possible to keep the keep the same image quality?

Left image is before upload, right image is after upload:

If you load the product page it looks blurry if you open a second window next to it and click on the necklace to enlarge it, it renders properly ive set them side by side.

Hi @mrki,

Are you using this patch?

Re: low quality of product images after upload

Hi @Damian Culotta

Thanks for respond!

We just upgraded from 2.1.6 to 2.1.9 but it seems that issue remains Smiley Sad

Do we need to apply patch still after upgrade?

Thanks!

Re: low quality of product images after upload

I'm not completely sure but... maybe?

This is the official tech note about the patch: http://devdocs.magento.com/guides/v2.1/release-notes/tech_bull_216-imageresize.html

Re: low quality of product images after upload

Do you have any experience with Imagemagick, the problem exists after magento creates the smaller images for thumb, base etc. If the original image is loaded from the server it loads fine, after magento tries to create smaller variations thats when the problems start occuring.

Re: low quality of product images after upload

Yesterday, I was complained by one of my clients that you are uploading low quality images, though I was using 4K images through magento backend. He is running an ecommerce store where he is selling Vinatage and Luxury Jewelry in USA, so one can understand that quality of images in these type of businesses means a lot.

Does any one have solution to it or should I try something else?
