Migrating basic data from Magento 2.1.15 to 2.3.3

Migrating basic data from Magento 2.1.15 to 2.3.3

I have a very old store that has been through hell, it's basically held together with duct tape. It started life as magento 1.7 then went through upgrades, dozens of extensions installed and uninstalled, custom templates that add "tools" to the magento backend. I made a copy on a development server and tried to upgrade it to 2.2 or 2.3 version of magento with no luck.

Now I'm trying something new. I installed a brand new version of Magento 2.3.3 on the development server, and I'd like to bring in my customer data, my orders, and my products into it. I'm going to be making a new theme, and I'm fine with reconfiguring everything from scratch. I'd just like to keep the close to 10 years of customer info and products.

Have you tried data migration tool? You can port some data with that if you're not a developer. Look at this task as an opportunity to uniformate, improve, align your data and remove unnecessary old data from live environment. You need this data in your ERP and BI, not on Magento. Best results can be achieved with CSV exports and custom SQL queries, database has sightly different architecture.

Re: Migrating basic data from Magento 2.1.15 to 2.3.3

To install Magento 2.3, you need a Linux-based operating system (Linux x86-64), such as RedHat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), CentOS, Ubuntu, Debian, and similar.

Also, the Web servers for Magento 2.3 is either Apache 2.2/2.4 or nginx 1.x.

For the Database, Magento 2.3 is compatible with MySQL 5.6 or 5.7, MySQL NDB Cluster 7.4.*, MariaDB 10.0, 10.1, 10.2, Percona 5.7, and other binary-compatible MySQL technologies.

Magento 2.3 only support php 7.1.3 and later, or php 7.2.

If you are reading how to upgrade to Magento 2.3 from Magento 2.2.x version, you can safely pass this step.

10 years built customers info and products is huge I see. But you didn't share how you manage to handle the data transfer using system tool. Experienced is what I see in your business on Magento. But if you are yet proficient in upgrading to later versions, I suggest you look out for help from freelance developers or reputable apps/tools.
