We cannot retrieve information on magento/product-community-edition.

I installed M2 from the zip download v2.1.1

 

Go into the online upgrade tool - make sure I have the credentials loaded and all I get is the message below

"We cannot retrieve information on magento/product-community-edition.

 

Can I upgrade  with the CLI and composer or isn't this available because I used the zipped downloads.

 

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

The process you are going is not correct for Magento 2 because Magento 2.x is very different for Magento 1.x
